The case is filed in a county. So is the search.

Family law is one of the few practices where jurisdiction and geography are the same question. A firm two counties over is not really competing with you, and a firm four blocks away is competing with you for everything.

That makes local search worth more here than in most fields, and it makes the generic local SEO playbook a poor fit. What follows is what we do instead, and what we will not do at all.

01

Four things that move county level visibility

None of them is a trick, and one of them is an honest statement that part of this is outside anyone control.

  1. 01

Google Business Profile, set up to reflect reality

Primary and secondary categories chosen for the matters you actually take, service areas that match the counties you file in, hours that are true, and a description that does not use regulated terms. Where your office arrangement complicates the listing, we say so rather than working around it.

  2. 02

County relevance rather than city stuffing

Courthouse and jurisdiction context written into the pages that genuinely need it, internal links that connect practice focus to place without creating near duplicates, and citations on the directories that carry weight for legal services rather than a bulk submission to three hundred that do not.

  3. 03

Proximity is a ranking factor you cannot buy

No agency can move your office, and anyone selling you a way around the distance component of local ranking is selling something that does not exist. What is winnable is everything else: relevance, prominence, and the depth of what your site actually says about the matters you handle.

  4. 04

Review handling that respects the constraint

A process for asking, a policy for responding, and a clear line on what a firm can and cannot publish. Testimonials are restricted or prohibited in some states and commonly require a disclaimer where they are permitted. Your firm confirms what applies and we build to it.

02

Why we do not build location pages

There is real search volume behind divorce lawyer plus almost any city name in the country. We looked at roughly sixty of those variants while planning this site and deliberately built pages for none of them.

The reason is not that the demand is fake. It is that the standard way of capturing it, a templated page per town with the name swapped and two paragraphs of filler around it, produces near duplicate pages that compete with each other, dilute the pages that matter, and read as manufactured to anyone who lands on two of them.

For a firm with one office and one county, the honest structure is one strong page per practice focus, written for the county you actually file in, supported by a correctly configured profile and citations. That is harder to fake and it survives algorithm changes that flatten templated networks.

a residential street at evening, wide, elevated, warm windows

If a firm genuinely has offices in more than one county, that is a different situation and each office earns a real page. Two offices is two pages, not twenty. Each one gets its own address, its own hours, its own profile, and content that reflects what is actually handled there rather than a copy of the other with a name swapped. That distinction is the whole difference between a location page and a location.

03

Citations, and why most of that industry is a waste of money

The standard offer is a submission to two or three hundred directories. For a law firm most of that is noise, and some of it is actively unhelpful.

A citation is a mention of your firm name, address and phone number on another site. The value comes from consistency and from the credibility of the source, not from the count.

Twenty accurate listings on directories that matter for legal services outperform three hundred on general business aggregators nobody consults, and the long tail creates a maintenance problem: every listing is a place where an old address can persist for years after you move.

The listings that carry weight for a law firm are the legal directories, the major data aggregators that feed everything else, and the local chamber and bar association listings where your firm genuinely belongs. That is a short list and it is finishable.

What we actually check

  • Firm name identical everywhere, including the suffix. Smith Law and Smith Law LLC are two businesses.
  • One canonical address format, matching the Business Profile exactly.
  • One phone number. Tracking numbers create inconsistency unless they are handled deliberately.
  • Old addresses from previous offices, which are the most common source of confusion.
  • Duplicate listings, which split authority between two versions of you.
  • Attorney profiles separate from firm profiles, which is a distinction several directories get wrong.
04

What this service is, plainly

Stated as a scope, because a lawyer reads a scope for what it leaves out.

Included

  • Business Profile audit and configuration.
  • Category and service area recommendations, with the reasoning.
  • Citation consistency check across the sources that matter.
  • County relevance written into the pages that need it.
  • A review process built to whatever your state permits.

Not included

  • Location pages. We do not build them, at any price.
  • Review generation, until we have established what your bar permits.
  • Responding to reviews on your behalf. That is your voice and your confidentiality obligation.
  • Any promise about proximity, which nobody can influence.

What makes this different

01

Every link arrives as a URL you can open

Not an impression, not a signal, not an initiative. A list with the live address of every placement, the domain authority of the host, and the keyword it supports. Ask any other agency for the same list and watch what happens.

02

We publish nothing without your sign off

Your firm carries the regulatory exposure for its own marketing communications, so your firm reads everything first. No queue, no timer, no piece that goes live because nobody replied.

03

The assets stay yours if you leave

No contract, no notice period, and nothing is removed when you stop paying. Canceling ends the next month rather than unwinding the last one. That is the difference between building an asset and renting a service.

04

We say no to work that will not help

If your intake is broken, if you need matters this quarter, or if your current site is structurally fine, we will tell you and you will keep your money. A firm that is not ready is a refund and a bad review waiting to happen.

05

We guarantee delivery and refuse to guarantee rankings

Search results are controlled by a third party whose systems change constantly. Anyone promising position is either guessing or lying, and a partner can tell the difference.

Questions

Why does county matter more than city for a family law firm?

Because jurisdiction follows the filing, not the address. A divorce is heard in the county where residency is established, so a searcher three towns away in the same county is a real prospect and a firm in the next county usually is not. Most local SEO advice is written for businesses where anyone can serve anyone, and it maps badly onto this.

Can you get us more Google reviews?

We can help you build a process, but review solicitation is restricted in some states and the workable approach depends on your bar current guidance. That is a conversation about your state before it is a tactic. An agency that offers to get you reviews without raising this has not considered your position, and we are not going to be that agency.

Our office is shared or virtual. Does that break the Business Profile?

It changes what you can claim, and getting it wrong risks suspension. The profile has to reflect where clients can actually meet someone, and a shared address used by several businesses is treated differently from a private office. We work to what is actually true of your setup rather than to what would rank best.

Do we need a separate page for every town in the county?

No, and we will not build them. Templated location pages are the fastest route to a penalty in this practice area, and they read as spam to a reader as much as to a crawler. County level relevance is built through genuinely useful pages, correct profile setup and local citations, not through fifty near duplicate pages with the town name swapped.

How many citations do we actually need?

Fewer than any citation package sells you. Twenty accurate listings on sources that matter for legal services beat three hundred on general aggregators, and the long tail creates a maintenance burden where an old address persists for years. Consistency is the ranking signal, not volume.

Should we use a call tracking number on the Business Profile?

Only if it is configured as the secondary number with your real line as primary, otherwise you introduce an inconsistency across every citation that references you. Plenty of firms do this correctly, and plenty break their local visibility doing it carelessly.

We moved offices last year. What does that break?

Usually more than a firm expects. Old addresses persist on directories, in old citations, and sometimes in a duplicate Business Profile nobody claimed. Cleaning that up is often the single highest return piece of local work available, and it is a one time job rather than a monthly one.
